Welcome to the official Benchmark Realtors blog. I'm Joe Cappellino, the broker and founder of Benchmark. After quite a hiatus, I'm finally able to present you with a website that's much more user-friendly, provides many more tools, and will be continuously updated on a regular basis to ensure that we are constantly providing our visitors with the latest tools, resources, and - finally - blog posts about our industry.

I grew up in an immigrant family, and watched my parents struggle to earn their piece of the American dream. A pivotal moment that would end up shaping my career was when, at the age of 13, I watched my father sign a listing agreement that was explained to him (and my mother and I as we sat across the table) as being a "5% commission", where in reality, the agent failed to disclose that her portion of the commission was 5% - and that the total would be 10%. After effectively wiping the majority of my parent's equity in the property, and having to watch my dad reconcile that while she did not expressly lie to him - she did withhold the truth, I have always maintained that there is no such thing as "overcommunicating". That experience has been one of many I bore witness to, that I remember as an example of how NOT to practice.

I received my real estate license at the age of 18, and began practicing full time, opening my own firm at the age of 25, in 2015. To say I've been blessed during my career would be an understatement. I've had the honor of meeting and helping countless families, from many walks of life, and have made connections and friendships to last lifetimes. Every client has a unique story, and I truly enjoy learning each and every story.
